Veterinary Medicine Students

Students applying to the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine should read and follow the following procedures to ensure a smooth application for financial aid at Virginia Tech. Questions should be directed to the Office of University Scholarships and Financial Aid (USFA), attention Dawn Brown, dlbrown@vt.edu. Students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for financial aid. You may submit your application electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov. See the FAFSA tab on this website.

  • Professional/Graduate students are eligible to borrow up to $28,500.00 in Federal Stafford loans ($8,500.00 maximum in an interest-free loan).
  • If students wish to qualify for the Federal Work Study program, your FAFSA must be filed and processed by the Federal Processor by March 11.
  • Scholarships are awarded only through the VMRCVM - contact their Admissions Office for criteria.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provides an annual allotment Student budget consisting of tuition, fees, room and board, and other allowances. A student’s financial aid awards cannot exceed this amount. COA is NOT the same as the student’s award package and NOT the same as the university bill to Virginia Tech, which is awarded to qualifying Veterinary Medicine students. Students in the VMRCVM are considered Professional students, and as such, are deemed Independent for financial aid purposes. Those students, who are uncertain whether they will be accepted to the VMRCVM, should file the FAFSA form using undergraduate information. If accepted to the VMRCVM, all parent information will be factored out of the application by Virginia Tech. It is required to submit all parent information on the initial FAFSA to be considered for HPSL.
